Adding extra fields/attributes to your product feeds is an Elite feature of our plugin. Interested in getting the most out of your marketing campaigns? Upgrade to the Elite version of our plugin, enjoy the extra fields such as Brand, GTIN, MPN, condition and many more Elite options.
Got your webshop up and running and ready to start advertising on platforms such as Google Shopping but seem to be missing crucial fields (attributes) that Google really requires or advice you to add to their Google Merchant Center feed? This happens to pretty much all WooCommerce store owners who want to submit their products to Google’s Merchant Center as WooCommerce (out-of-the-box) misses some crucial fields to get your products approved by Google. Just to mention a few: Brand, GTIN, MPN,EAN, SKU, Condition, etc.
Luckily, there are some plugins available that can help solve part of this problem by adding certain fields to your WooCommerce store. However, none of these plugins cover all the fields you need, so you may end up needing additional plugins to get all the required extra fields. Our plugin, WooCommerce Product Feed PRO, works well with these plugins, but we’ve heard from our users that this situation is not ideal. As a result, we’ve decided to add a feature to our plugin that adds all the mentioned input fields to your product edit pages, along with some additional fields.
All you have to do is enable this option in the settings section of our plugin:
Once enabled you will find extra input fields in your ‘edit product’ pages.
The extra input fields (custom attributes) you will be having now are:
- Brand
- GTIN
- MPN
- UPC
- EAN
- Color
- Size
- Gender
- Material
- Pattern
- Optimised title
- Product condition
- Age group
- Installment
- Unit pricing measure
- Unit pricing base measure
- Cost of goods sold
- Multipack
- Is bundle
- Energy efficiency class
- Minimum energy efficiency class
- Maximum energy efficiency class
- Promotion Id
- Custom field 0
- Custom field 1
- Custom field 2
- Custom field 3
- Custom field 4
- Exclude from feeds
Those extra fields however will not yet show on your product edit pages before you enable the attributes you need on the plugin > settings > attribute settings page:
Make sure to enable the fields you would like to use:
These extra input fields look like this for simple products:
And for variable products:
Once you have filled in these extra fields for your products and start configuring your product feed (for Google Shopping) you will have to map Google’s required fields to those of your WooCommerce Store. The extra fields we just added are all starting with ‘woosea’, see the example’s below:
From version 5.3.6, this feature includes custom fields that can be used as a “free format attribute” for any missing fields. For example, if you need to add gender and color to your Google Shopping feed, but these attributes are not available or have not been added by our plugin, you can use the custom field attributes to include the gender and color values in your feed.
The custom fields will look like this on your simple and variant product edit pages:
And can be added to your product feed by creating the following field mapping:
Structured data
As of version 7.6.5 of our plugin, the values used for brand, condition, MPN and GTIN fields added by our plugin are also being used for the structured data on your website. Make sure you do enable the structured data fix feature of our plugin when you want to use these fields for your structured data. The additions to your structured data will look like this:
Some important pointers
- You will find a ‘damaged’ option in the ‘condition’ drop-down. This is not an official product-status that is supported by Google Shopping so your products might get disapproved when you have marked them as being damaged. The other options in the drop-down (New, Refurbished and Used) are all being accepted by Google;
- The newly created fields can, of course, also be used to create rules and filters on in one of the next steps of your feed configuration;
- An extra crucial feature of this plugin is that when you decide to use the ‘condition’ field for your products (which Google requires you to do) than this product condition will also be used in the structured markup data of your product pages so your products will not get disapproved by Google;
- When using the installment feature you need to map it to the ‘Installment’ field in the drop-down. It is near the end of the list and does not start with ‘woosea’;
- You might have noticed this small extra checkbox saying ‘exclude from feeds’ underneath the extra added fields. When checking this field the individual simple or variable product will be excluded from your product feeds. This was already possible in previous versions of the plugin but you would have to create some complex filters for that;
- Just to be clear, this feature of our plugin is not generating the values, such as GTIN’s, automatically. You would still have to get the values yourselves and insert them into the proper input fields so you can use them for your feed(s).
And voila, that is all you need to do to get your Google Shopping feed approved by Google’s Merchant Center.
