Clicking through the Product Feed Pro admin screens works fine for one-off changes. It doesn’t scale when you want an AI assistant, an internal automation, or an MCP-connected agent to create feeds, fix a mapping, translate a feed into another language, or check feed health on its own. That’s what AI abilities solve: a structured, permission-checked way for an AI assistant to call the same actions the admin UI already exposes, through the WordPress Abilities API.
Every ability is a thin wrapper around the plugin’s existing service layer, the same helpers the admin UI and WP-CLI use, so calling an ability fires the same WordPress and WooCommerce hooks as the equivalent admin action. There’s no separate “via AI” code path to trust. This reference covers every ability registered across the AdTribes plugin family, who can call each one, and how to connect an assistant to your store.
What you’ll need
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| WordPress 6.9 or newer | The Abilities API (wp_register_ability()) ships in WordPress core from 6.9. On older WordPress versions, registration is skipped entirely and no abilities appear. |
| Product Feed Pro 13.5.7 or newer | Owns and registers the 25 abilities in the reference table below. WooCommerce must be active too, since Product Feed Pro only boots when it is. |
| A way to connect an AI assistant | AdTribes plugins don’t have their own AI or MCP settings tab. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or another assistant to your abilities through StoreAgent. That guide covers installing StoreAgent, connecting an assistant, and approving how much access the connection gets. |
| Product Feed Elite (optional) | Not required for any of the abilities below. See “Product Feed Elite’s role” further down. |
| Product Feed Translation Addon 1.0.1 or newer (optional) | Adds 4 more abilities for creating and checking per-language feeds. |
What AI abilities are
An ability is one specific action your AI assistant can take in your store, for example “list my feeds” or “set a feed’s schedule”. Some abilities only read data. Others make a change, and the ones that do are marked destructive so an MCP client knows to confirm with you before it runs them.
Connect an assistant
For the full connection flow, including installing StoreAgent and approving what a connection can read or change, see How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to your store with MCP. Once your assistant is connected through StoreAgent’s MCP endpoint, the AdTribes read abilities are available straight away. The write abilities stay off until you turn them on in StoreAgent > Settings > MCP > Abilities, under the AdTribes source.
Product Feed Pro abilities
Product Feed Pro registers 25 abilities under the shared adtribes category. Registration hooks into wp_abilities_api_init at priority 20, gated on function_exists( 'wp_register_ability' ), so it’s a graceful no-op on WordPress older than 6.9. You can also switch registration off entirely with the PFP_DISABLE_ABILITIES constant or the adt_pfp_enable_abilities filter, both of which default to abilities being on.

Product Feed Translation Addon abilities
With the Product Feed Translation Addon active, 4 more abilities register under the same adtribes category, hooked to wp_abilities_api_init at priority 40 so Product Feed Pro registers its own abilities first. You can switch these off with the PFTA_DISABLE_ABILITIES constant or the adt_pfta_enable_abilities filter.
| Ability | Name | Type | Who can use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| List translated feeds | adtribes/list-translated-feeds | Read | Shop Manager + Administrator |
| Create language feed | adtribes/create-language-feed | Write (destructive) | Shop Manager + Administrator |
| Get translation coverage | adtribes/get-translation-coverage | Read | Shop Manager + Administrator |
| Set language attribute | adtribes/set-language-attribute | Write (destructive) | Shop Manager + Administrator |
Create language feed duplicates an existing feed for a specific language, the same duplicate-then-switch-language flow the admin Manage Feeds screen performs. Get translation coverage reports, per language, how many published products exist in that language against your default language, so you can see how complete a language feed will be before generating it.
Product Feed Elite’s role
Product Feed Elite doesn’t currently own any exclusive abilities. Before Product Feed Pro 13.5.7, 12 of the abilities above (everything under custom feeds, marketing and tracking, and scheduling and stats, plus clone-feed and bulk-update-feeds) shipped in Elite 5.0.9 instead. As of Pro 13.5.7, Pro owns and registers all of them itself, since the features they wrap live in Pro.
With both plugins active and Product Feed Pro 13.5.7 or newer, Elite 5.1.0 no longer registers any of its own abilities: Pro registers first (priority 20), and Elite’s copies (priority 30) check whether the name is already taken and skip themselves when it is, so they never fire. What Elite still does is:
- Enrich
adtribes/get-tracking-status: Elite adds the real Facebook Conversion API status to that ability’s response through theadt_pfp_ability_tracking_statusfilter, since Pro doesn’t own the Conversion API integration. - Provide a compatibility fallback: On a site still running Product Feed Pro older than 13.5.7, Elite’s copies register instead, so those ability names keep working during the upgrade window.
One ability didn’t make the move: adtribes/get-pixel-event-log, which shipped in Elite 5.0.9, is retired rather than adopted. It could only ever report “not supported,” so it isn’t part of the reference table above.
Elite has its own switch too: the PFE_DISABLE_ABILITIES constant or the adt_pfe_enable_abilities filter turns off everything Elite adds to abilities: its fallback copies and the Facebook Conversion API detail in adtribes/get-tracking-status.
Who can use each ability
Abilities use the same permission model as the plugin’s admin screens and REST endpoints, not the bare WordPress read capability every logged-in user has.
| Permission check | Applies to | Required capability |
|---|---|---|
| Read abilities | Every “Read” row above | manage_woocommerce |
| Feed and translation management abilities | Every “Write” row except the marketing settings below | manage_woocommerce |
| Marketing settings abilities | set-facebook-pixel, set-google-tracking | Filterable via adt_pfp_admin_capability, default manage_options |
WooCommerce gives both Administrators and Shop Managers manage_woocommerce by default. So a Shop Manager can call every ability except set-facebook-pixel and set-google-tracking, which need manage_options unless you change adt_pfp_admin_capability.
The feed admin screens use a separate capability. To let Shop Managers use those screens too, see How To Allow Shop Manager to Manage Feeds?
Write access
Every write ability reports a destructive and idempotent flag in its registration metadata, visible to any Abilities API client. An MCP client like StoreAgent can use these flags to decide whether to ask you before it runs a call, but whether your assistant can write to your store at all is controlled by three things:
- Your user account’s capability, from the table above.
- The access you approved when you connected your assistant. A connection you approved as read-only in StoreAgent can’t run a destructive ability, whatever capability your account has. See How to connect ChatGPT or Claude to your store with MCP for how to review or change a connection’s access.
- StoreAgent’s Ability allowlist. AdTribes write abilities are off in StoreAgent until you turn each one on under StoreAgent > Settings > MCP > Abilities, in the AdTribes source. Read abilities are on by default.
Read limits
Read abilities that return lists are capped so a single call can’t pull unbounded data:
| Ability | Limit |
|---|---|
adtribes/list-feeds | per_page maxes at 500, defaults to 100 |
adtribes/list-google-taxonomy | limit maxes at 5000, defaults to 200 |
adtribes/get-excluded-products | limit maxes at 500, defaults to 100 |
adtribes/get-channel-summary | Aggregates up to 500 feeds per channel; beyond that it returns truncated: true |
adtribes/bulk-update-feeds | feed_ids accepts up to 500 per call |
Troubleshooting
PFP_DISABLE_ABILITIES constant (or PFTA_DISABLE_ABILITIES for the Translation Addon) or returned false from the adt_pfp_enable_abilities filter, since either one turns off registration entirely.manage_woocommerce; the two marketing-settings abilities need whatever adt_pfp_admin_capability resolves to (manage_options by default). Confirm your user account or application password making the call actually has that capability.FAQ
adtribes/get-tracking-status.adtribes/... names stayed the same, so existing calls keep working.adtribes/bulk-update-feeds accepts up to 500 feed IDs per call. For more, split the request into batches.Need more help?
